These fittings are made from molybdenum-bearing austenitic stainless steels, primarily composed of chromium, nickel, and 2–3% molybdenum, which enhances their resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion. Type 316 has a higher carbon content, which boosts strength at elevated temperatures, while 316L features lower carbon, offering outstanding resistance to sensitization and intergranular corrosion after welding. Both grades showcase impressive tensile and yield strength, excellent toughness, and dependable hardness. Their mechanical properties, along with their resistance to oxidation and chloride attack, make them ideal for use in aggressive and corrosive environments.
