Stainless steel 409L tubing is produced using a low-carbon form of ferritic stainless steel, generally containing 10.5–11.75% chromium and up to 0.03% carbon. The lower content of carbon lowers carbide precipitation during the welding process, improving corrosion resistance and weldability. The alloy is also commonly comprising titanium stabilization to further enhance resistance to sensitization. The tubing has moderate tensile strength, typically between 350–500 MPa, with good yield strength and high resistance to oxidation under high temperatures. Its ferritic microstructure provides excellent thermal conductivity and formability that makes it a good candidate for numerous applications in industry.
