Stainless Steel 440B Fasteners consist of a high-carbon martensitic stainless steel alloy with about 16–18% chromium and 0.75–0.95% carbon. The composition provides good hardness and strength after heat treatment as well as fair corrosion resistance. Such fasteners generally provide tensile strength in excess of 760 MPa and good wear resistance. 440B fasteners are hardenable to about 58 HRC Rockwell hardness, making them ideal for use where maximum mechanical strength and wear resistance are necessary.
