Stainless Steel 422 Stud Bolts are produced from a hardenability martensitic stainless steel alloy with about 0.2–0.25% carbon, 11–13% chromium, 0.8–1.0% molybdenum, and trace amounts of tungsten, vanadium, and nickel. This special composition gives a combination of high strength, oxidation resistance, and superior creep resistance at high temperatures. The alloy may be heat treated to attain tensile strengths of 895–1035 MPa and yield strengths of 620–895 MPa. The alloy also possesses toughness and hardness at elevated temperatures with a Rockwell hardness of up to 45 HRC depending on the heat treatment condition.
