Stainless Steel 304/304L Sheets and Plates are austenitic stainless steels with Composition: Chromium (18–20%), Nickel (8–12%), and controlled Carbon content—304: ≤0.08%, 304L: ≤0.03%. This alloy exhibits superior resistance to corrosion, good weldability, and very high strength. Mechanical properties are a minimum tensile strength of 515 MPa, minimum yield strength of 205 MPa, and elongation of approximately 40%. Lower carbon content in 304L is responsible for decreased carbide precipitation during welding and minimizes the risk of intergranular attack. Both grades are good for use in a variety of fabrication processes.
