**Stainless Steel 409 Sheets and Plates** are produced using a ferritic stainless steel alloy containing a major percentage of 10.5–11.75% chromium and having a low carbon content of about 0.08% max. This material is intended for those applications where oxidation and corrosion resistance are critical, but where the utilization of more costly stainless steels is not required. 409 has good weldability, formability, and modest mechanical properties, with tensile strength of about 380–550 MPa and yield strength of about 170–260 MPa. While less resistant to corrosion than austenitic types, 409 resists mildly corrosive and high-temperature conditions, particularly when stabilized with titanium.
